Choosing the right cutlery
Choosing the Right Cutlery

NOTE: This is merely general guidance based on the “most common” purchases. Always check your old silver cutlery by measuring it if you are unsure. You are also welcome to contact us for advice!

If you have already started collecting silver cutlery in a particular model and want to add to it, the first step is to find out which model you have. The second is to decide whether you want cutlery in sterling silver or silver plate. Then there is the type of cutlery you need, which depends somewhat on what you intend to eat with it. The best tip for identifying which type of silver cutlery you need to complement your existing set is to measure the pieces you already have. The length of all our silver cutlery is listed on the individual side of each piece under “More Information.”
Dinner Cutlery
This was formerly used for eating the main course. Today, it is very unusual to buy this type of silver cutlery (except for a few models where only dinner cutlery is available); instead, table cutlery is usually bought for eating the main course. Check carefully that this is not the cutlery you need.
Table Cutlery
Used for eating the main course (except for a few models where only dinner cutlery is available). Some models include two different types of knives: one with a short blade and one with a long blade. Be aware of which one you need (measure your old knives). The knives are made with stainless steel blades because the blades would become too soft if made of silver.
Sandwich Cutlery
Used for eating the starter.
Dessert Cutlery
Used for eating dessert. Some choose to buy 12 dessert spoons instead of 12 table spoons, as they may not eat soup with fine cutlery very often and prefer to spend that money on dessert cutlery.
Tea Spoon
Available in some of the larger models. Used for tea. Very unusual cutlery. Check that this is not the coffee spoon you need.
Pastry Fork
Used for eating cake and pastries, among other things. Common in southern Sweden.
Coffee Spoon
Used when drinking coffee. By far the most common cutlery in all models.
Moka/Espresso/Mulled Wine Spoon
Can be used for moka, espresso, or mulled wine. It is smaller than the coffee spoon. Check that this is not the coffee spoon you need.
Cake Server
The cake server is used for cutting and serving cake. It can also be used for pies and sandwich cakes, for example. Many models include two different servers: one with a stainless steel blade and one made entirely of silver (hence the price difference). The one with the stainless steel blade usually has a “chunkier” handle that is solid, while the one made entirely of silver is usually stamped from a single piece.
Fish Cutlery
Used for fish dishes.
Salad/Serving Cutlery
Used for serving food from a platter, as well as for salad. Both spoons and forks are available. Many models include two different types of salad/serving cutlery: one with a stainless steel front and one made entirely of silver (hence the price difference).
